The transition to renewable energy in Gippsland is transforming the region from a coal-dependent economy to a hub for wind, solar and other sustainable energy sources, driving both environmental and economic revitalisation.

As the industry transitions from old to new energy, gender equity is crucial to meeting the needs of workforces, communities, stakeholders, funders and investors. Gender equity in place-based renewable energy companies is vital for the Gippsland community as it boosts productivity and economic output, leading to robust local economies, improved living standards, and better health and wellbeing.

What is the Women In Energy Project Aim?

Funded by the Office for Women, this project and the project stakeholders will work to increase the participation and equity of Gippsland women in the energy sector. The project will work alongside industry stakeholders to provide resources and support that promote the use of modern frameworks, policies, processes and practices that advance gender equality.

The aim is for Gippsland Women’s Health (GWH) to provide guidance and support to the Gippsland energy industry by helping companies to actively pursue and embed gender equalising activities into company culture and practices.

Through this project, industry will achieve:

  • Collaborative Enhancement: Industry leaders will advance gender equity within their organisations.
  • Empowerment and Accountability: Industry leaders will recognise their capabilities and build confidence in fostering internal accountability for gender equity.
  • Capacity Building: Awareness of and confidence will be increased in the use of contemporary tools and practices for moving toward gender equity.
  • Practical Sustainability: Practical and sustainable activities for industry will be given.

Women In Energy and Gender Equity

Gender equity in the community fosters a more inclusive and cohesive society. It ensures everyone, regardless of gender, has equal access to opportunities and resources, enhancing social harmony and overall wellbeing. Communities that prioritise gender equity experience lower levels of violence, higher educational attainment and greater economic stability.

Companies have a social responsibility to create inclusive workplaces that reflect fairness and equality. Those who champion gender equality benefit from enhanced employee satisfaction, retention and productivity, leading to diverse perspectives, increased innovation and improved decision-making. This also builds trust and loyalty, enhancing the workplace’s reputation by showing leadership on issues the community cares about.
