Overview of the Leadership Program

Gippsland is undergoing a major transition from a coal dependent economy to a hub for renewable energy, including wind, solar and emerging technologies. This shift is creating new opportunities for economic growth, innovation and regional development.

To ensure these benefits are shared fairly, gender equity must be part of how this transition is designed and delivered.

Gippsland Women’s Health is delivering a free leadership program to support people working in the New Energy sector to build the knowledge, skills and confidence to advance gender equity in their workplaces and communities.

Open to people of all genders, this program brings together participants from across Gippsland to explore practical, meaningful ways to create safer, fairer and more inclusive environments.

Why Gender Equity Matters in New Energy

As the energy sector transitions, gender equity is critical to meeting the needs of workforces, communities, stakeholders and investors.

Workplaces and communities that prioritise gender equity:

  • Improve productivity, innovation and decision making
  • Attract and retain a diverse workforce
  • Contribute to stronger, more resilient local economies
  • Support better health, wellbeing and social outcomes
  • Experience lower levels of violence and greater social cohesion

Organisations that actively embed gender equity not only strengthen their internal culture, but also demonstrate leadership on issues that matter to their workforce and the broader community.

About the Program

This program helps participants understand how gender inequity shows up in workplaces and communities – and what can realistically be done about it.

Build capability in – applying equitable leadership principles, using accountability mechanisms to support sustainable change, and learning alongside peers from across the New Energy sector.
