Organisational Update: 2024 and beyond

Posted On: July 17, 2024

Over the past 6 months, Gippsland Women’s Health (GWH) along with the other Victorian women’s health services faced uncertainty leading up to the 2024 Victorian State budget announcement.

Funding Announcement

Recently, Gippsland Women’s Health has received confirmation that the crucial funding uplift introduced two years ago will be extended until 30 June 2026. This is excellent news for our organisation and the communities we serve, highlighting the critical importance of investing in women’s health and prevention of violence services. It further acknowledges the significant role of women’s health services in the Victorian public health system as primary leaders in reducing the impact of gender inequality on health, safety and wellbeing outcomes for Victorian Women.

Funding Impact

This continued funding uplift has enabled GWH to realign our model. Currently, we are undertaking a major recruitment process that will allow us to sustain our current work but to also enhance our range of services and support offerings. We are excited to reveal our 2024-2026 Strategic Plan. Click here to read the Strategic Plan more.

Keep an eye out for a range of impactful initiatives coming up including:

  • A major audit and overhaul of our learning and development resources
  • Revitalization of the regional Gendered Violence Prevention Strategy
  • Commencement of the redevelopment of a new regional Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy
  • Commencement of a gendered violence prevention men in leadership framework
  • With support from the Latrobe Valley Authority, we will commence work in late July 2024 with a range of small and medium enterprise across the region to build organisational capability to promote gender equality and apply a gender lens in the workplace

We are also rolling out major projects including:

  • Our Equal Local Government Project in partnership with WorkSafe WorkWell Respect Fund which aims at addressing work-related gendered violence including sexual harassment in the workplace
  • The Statewide e-Safety Commissioner project, known as eAware, that aims to prevent online tech abuse specifically for women and girls in regional and remote Victoria
  • The recently funded Women in New Energy project “Gender mainstreaming in Renewable Energy in Gippsland” that aims to address gender inequality and promote women’s participation and leadership in renewable energy
  • On 1 July 2024 we formally commenced a regional project to develop and support peer facilitators across Gippsland to activate women’s health support groups

The Future

We are excited to expand our work and reach throughout Gippsland and can’t wait to see these initiatives and projects take shape. We look forward to more opportunities to work with you as we all work towards creating enduring, sustainable changes for women and girls throughout Gippsland.
