Join us in supporting Safer Internet Day

Posted On: February 6, 2024

We use the internet in almost every aspect of our lives, so it’s important to understand the risks, design and develop products with user safety in mind, and promote online safety to our audience. This is why we’re joining the eSafety Commissioner on Tuesday 6th of February to support Safer Internet Day – a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness of online safety issues.

We encourage you to get involved and take these three simple actions when approaching online safety: Connect. Reflect. Protect.

  • Connect – Design and develop online products and services, devices and platforms that prioritise safe and secure connections between users.
  • Reflect – Take the time to consider how new products, services, features and policies may impact end users and their communities.
  • Protect – Provide tools within online products and services that align with the best interests of users and give them a level of autonomy and empowerment to support safe online interactions.

Free tools and resources for industry are available on the eSafety website to help us understand our obligations towards user safety and how we can all embed safety into our organisation’s culture, ethos and operations. Visit eSafety.gov.au/industry to learn more.

For workplaces – become familiar with the online safety industry codes.

These codes place legal requirements on social media, app distributors, ISPs, hosting providers and suppliers of electronic devices to deal with the most harmful content online. You can find information on the industry codes and how to make complaints at eSafety.gov.au/industry/codes.

For parents – join a Parent webinar hosted by eSafety.

Join one of their free webinars for parents and carers and share these webinars with consumers. These live webinars give parents and carers the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe online experiences. Visit eSafety.gov.au/parents/webinars to sign up and learn more.

By sharing the Connect. Reflect. Protect. message, we can work towards making every day a Safer Internet Day.
